Congratulations to the Marching Patriots on a fantastic season. The season ended this past Saturday at the VMBC Championship, with the Marching Patriots placing fourth in their class. It was another great performance from the band! While there was disappointment at not reaching the finals, everyone should be very proud of what this group of students has accomplished this year. All the hours of work created a fantastic show!
Thanks to all our seniors for your dedication to the program! We will miss each of you next year. We do expect that you will come visit next fall and encourage the next iteration of the Marching Patriots. Thank you to Mr. LaPrade and all of the marching band staff for the endless hours you all have put into this group of students. Your own talents and passion have shone through this fall and we all appreciate it very much. To all the volunteers this year, THANK YOU so very much for everything you did. From uniforms to pancakes, from picking up the food & drinks to serving that food & drinks and from carrying equipment to loading trucks, we supported this band in everything they did and needed. I appreciate you all putting up with my endless requests for more hands to help - and I appreciate all those that showed up to help out. We had a lot of new people helping this year - thanks for joining in the fun! We will have things to do throughout the rest of the year as we continue to support the band this year. This is the last of the regularly scheduled "weekly" updates, but there will be messages on occasion about fundraisers, auditions, and concerts. Football note: The football team ended their regular season on Friday. Their first playoff game is away at Riverbend. So, we will not be hosting a playoff game. End of Marching Band Season - the Marching Band Olympics The students have one more afternoon "rehearsal" scheduled for this Monday, November 8, until 5:30pm. This is the annual end of season tradition, with games and events for the students. At the end, we'll have some ice cream treats for them while they watch the show one more time. Band Boosters Meeting Next Boosters meeting is this Tuesday, November 9 at 7pm. Everyone is invited so please join us. Thanks again for a great Marching Patriots season! Tim Superior : of high quality : high or higher in quality
The Marching Patriots received a score of SUPERIOR this past Saturday at the State Assessment at Monticello. Congratulations to the band on an outstanding performance. Personally, I didn't need the State Assessment to tell me that our students are SUPERIOR. Spend any length of time around this group and you can just tell the high quality of people that these students are. Just watch their dedication to this show and you can tell the high quality that they hold themselves to for their show. These students define superior. But, that wasn't the end of the day for this crew of musicians and performers. Next up was the Powhatan Fall Classic where our students received the following awards: 1st place music 1st place visual 1st place percussion 2nd place general effect 2nd place class AAAAA The band placed 2nd overall in our division of 13 bands. We missed out on the first place by 2 tenths of a point! An outstanding performance by the band! They received a lot of good feedback so they can prepare for the Championship event this coming weekend. Great job Marching Patriots! VMBC State Championship Saturday, November 6 at Liberty University (Williams Stadium) 1971 University Blvd Lynchburg, VA 24502 Here is the schedule: 6:45am – Arrive/Load Truck/Eat Bagels 7:45am – Depart AHS 9:15am – Arrive and unload 10:00am – Warm Up Time 11:00am – The Better to Hear You With 11:20am – Return to Truck/Pack Up 12:00pm – Watch the rest of our class 12:30pm – Depart for Park for Lunch/Senior Speeches 2:30pm – Return to stadium 3:00pm – Watch Class 4 and 5 5:30pm – Awards/Announcement of Finalists 6:00pm – Depart for Liberty University 7:00pm – First Finalist Band 10:30pm – Awards 11:15pm – Depart Liberty 12:30am – Arrive at AHS/Unload 12:45am – Dismissal *** Note *** If we don’t make finals we will return home at 5:30 and should be dismissed around 7:15pm. Our schedule and a complete schedule of all the band performing can be found here: https://mcusercontent.com/2cd7a1be78c31262fb2a6e283/files/535d7c2f-5f82-19fc-b498-446d0843d295/Schedule_for_VMBC_State_Championships_2021.pdf I've been asked several times about how the finalist portion is determined. There are 12 bands selected from the 30 performing. The winner of each class (there are 5 classes) advances. From there, the top 7 performing bands advance (last time they split this with the top 4 from classes 1-3 and 3 from classes 4-5). So, we need to win our class or be in the top 4 highest scores of the remaining bands to be a finalist. Ticket information for VMBC Champs Tickets can be purchased in advance of the event at: https://gofan.co/app/events/433311?schoolId=VA7532_1 Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students (K-12). Children under 5 are free. Tickets will be available at the gate by credit card. Concessions will be available at the stadium. Volunteers still needed We are still needing volunteers to assist with the truck on Saturday. There were a few people who told me this past weekend that they were going to help, but there are only 2 people who signed up. Please sign up to help out! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0d49acaf28a6f58-2021 Note: If you're able to help with things at AHS but are not going to Lynchburg, please let me know via email. We're always appreciative of help, especially late at night! Booster Volunteer Shout-out I want to take a moment to express my appreciation for Carrie and Jay Eisenberg. Their daughter, Lucy, is a senior, so they have reached the end of their marching band events. Carrie has been the food guru for the last several years, always making sure that the students are fed at marching band camp, dinners are there for football games, bagels are ready for competitions, and that we have food for any other special event I throw her way. She has always made sure we have plenty of food and I know the students have appreciated it. I certainly have relied on Carrie a lot and I will miss having her sage food advice (really, how many bagels will we need?). Jay has been our lead truck driver and loader (amoung other things) the last few years, driving our equipment hundreds of miles around the state. He has also spent a lot of time working with Penske to make sure we have the trucks needed to haul everything - and this year has been challenging with making sure we got what we needed. Jay has been a constant help to me with making sure we have everything we need and a great resource of knowledge and information. Please take a moment to thank these superior volunteers for their numerous hours of help over the last several years! Next Booster meeting Tuesday, November 9 at 7pm See you all for Champs! Tim I hope everyone enjoyed their event free weekend. The next couple of weeks are jammed with events and rehearsals as we approach the end of the marching band season. Here we go!

If the football team makes the playoffs and hosts a home football game, the marching band will attend the game and play pep band music. They will not perform the field show at that game. More communication on that later, if the football team makes the playoffs. Poinsettias! Poinsettia fundraiser launches this week. Stay tuned for details! See everyone at Senior Night! Tim Well, Virginia Beach didn't work out like we had all hoped. Mother Nature got the best of the day and prevented another performance of The Better To Hear You With. We all hoped that the weather would break and we made an attempt to make it happen, but it just wasn't meant to be. I know the students were bummed about the whole thing, but we move on to the next one!
I would like to give a huge thank you to all the volunteers that showed up and helped get this band ready to perform in Virginia Beach. We loaded up in the rain, drove through the rain and then finally unloaded around midnight. There were a lot of hands pitching in and I really appreciate everyone's efforts and time. Scott, Carl, Tony, Johanna, Michael, Bret, Kate, Bill, Trish, Jen, Brian (and anyone I inadvertently left out!) were all truck rock stars that day and I thank you all very much! We have a free and clear weekend ahead before the final two weekends of the season. Enjoy your weekend! Rehearsal Schedule this week Monday - afternoon Tuesday - morning Wednesday - afternoon Thursday - morning and afternoon Friday - morning Volunteer! We are in need of a parent volunteer for the last home football game (October 29) to assist with some Senior Night things. This ideally would be someone who doesn't have a senior. :) Please email me and let me know if you are interested and I will let you know all that is needed to be done. A few other open spots for the Louisa game: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0d49acaf28a6f58-ahsmarching2. One of those is selling seat cushions - we have a lot of inventory to move - please consider spending the time selling them! The first is at Monticello, where we are tentatively scheduled to perform at 2:15pm. Immediately after getting off the field, we are back on the bus and to AHS. We will have a short break there, where the students can eat. Unlike the past, there will not be a potluck dinner between competitions - students should bring their own meal. We will have some chips and drinks available, but students should plan to have something as their main meal. We will leave fairly quickly after that to get to Powhattan for our second performance, which is tentatively scheduled for 7:45. Trucks will stay loaded from Monticello. A final schedule, including rehearsal times, will be announced in the coming week. Now, for something a bit Jazzy.... We will see you all at Senior Night on October 29! Tim Hello everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed Homecoming weekend at Albemarle. It was a close, yet disappointing game, but the post-game show was really great! I did get compliments on the show from Athletic Director Deb Tyson, who stayed to watch. Thanks to everyone for sticking around after the game to watch it and help out. Back to competition mode as we prepare this week for Virginia Beach. Hey! Wednesday is a half day for students (in case you missed it)! There will be a rehearsal schedule variation this week. There will be concessions for sale at the venue, but lines get long and they potentially will run out of food. The students can always pack additional food (please keep in mind that they are not allowed to eat on the bus as they have to stay masked). Volunteers - we need your help! We are still very much in need of volunteers for next weekend's competition in Virginia Beach. I did talk with a few different parents on Friday that indicated they were willing to help - please sign up online so we know who is helping out. Not signed up? Please see how you can help the band by checking out the list. I've broken up the truck roles into 3 groups to make it easier on everyone. Really need some help at Virginia Beach and for our after midnight return. Please see how you can assist! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0d49acaf28a6f58-2021 Also, I am in need of a parent volunteer for the last home football game (October 29) to assist with some Senior Night things. Another great performance by the Marching Patriots this past Saturday at the Charlottesville Cavalcade! These students continue to refine this show and still add new elements each week. If you haven't seen the show, come to a game or a competition and cheer them on! It's Homecoming Week - which means a slightly different schedule for Friday's rehearsal and the game. For the game, the band will be assisting with the Homecoming Court during halftime and will perform their show, The Better To Hear You With, after the game. So stick around after the game to see it! Rehearsal Schedule this week Monday - afternoon Tuesday - morning Wednesday - afternoon Thursday - morning and afternoon Friday - morning - because of the Homecoming Tailgate, there is no afternoon rehearsal. Students need to be in the band room at 5:30pm. VMBC Championship Merchandise and Program Ads For Championship weekend on November 6, there are shirts and hoodies available by pre-order. Please see https://www.albemarleband.org/store/c4/VMBC_Merchandise.html#/ and place your order by TOMORROW, October 5! VMBC will have a program available for sale at the competition. Families can place personal ads/shout-outs to band students, either individually or as a group, similar to what is found in a yearbook. This is a great way to show your support for your student in their last marching event of the year! Great way to also recognize your senior! The deadline is Friday, October 8, 2021. Order these ads directly with the Jefferson Forest Band Boosters that are sponsoring the event. Details, pricing and contact information are found on the flyer: https://mcusercontent.com/2cd7a1be78c31262fb2a6e283/files/f4c9b3a8-24f0-cc46-62a6-95dfc0f30e79/2021_VMBC_Program_Sales_2021_for_All_Bands_Attending_.pdf Volunteer! Coupon Books Last week of the Attractions Coupon Book fundraiser - ORDERS DUE BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8! Books are $25 each. There is a credit for each student to their band account for each book they sell. This is a popular item in our community so this one should be easy for each student to get out there and sell to their friends and neighbors. Thanks everyone - see you at the game on Friday! Tim As a reminder, the ACPS COVID policy requires a mask anytime you are inside an ACPS building. Going forward, we will also be requiring a mask when assisting the band in loading trucks and moving equipment on the field. This is regardless of vaccination status and being outdoors and applies to all volunteers. We do not want anyone to become ill and make this change with that in mind.
We ask that if you have any illness symptoms - fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, congestion or sore throat - that you please stay home and take care of yourself. We will be happy to find other volunteers to cover your slots and will happily greet you back when you are feeling well. WOW.
What an impressive showing at the Hermitage Classic by the Marching Patriots! Best percussion, best music, best general effect, best marching, and first place in class AAA. This is the result of a lot of hard work from these students and the staff - and remember that the third movement is brand new on the field! Congratulations on a great performance! Stay tuned though - I know that there are some more elements coming for the show and things continue to be fine tuned. This week brings another competition - the Charlottesville Cavalcade, Saturday, October 2 at Charlottesville High School. The Marching Patriots perform their show, "The Better To Hear You With", at 7:15pm. Be sure to show up and cheer for them! We have a lot of heavy equipment and props that can injure smaller children as well as it is difficult to navigate around them when we're moving large things around. I know they're interested in what is going on and want to help, but for everyone's safety, please keep them clear. Rehearsal Schedule this week Monday - No school, no rehearsal!
